Towing company owner offers reward to catch vandals

By Andrew Ardizzi

New Waterford, Nova Scotia — October 4, 2013 —  A Nova Scotia towing professional is offering a reward in hopes it will lead to information about the identities of those vandalizing his towing and recovery operation.

Louis Syms, the owner of Syms Towing, says the acts of vandalism are an ongoing problem for his business and he would like to find out who is responsible.

“Every time I go up there to the storage area there are more acts of vandalism,” says Syms. “They break every car window, even the tail lights, and they spray paint their names on the cars as well.”

Syms, who has been renting the property for five years, noted there seems to be different names painted on the vehicles every time he checks on the compound. He also claims that the vandals recently set fire to several discarded vehicles in the compound’s storage area.

He’s also noticed that there are footprints on the top of some vehicles, and worries for the safety of those responsible despite the damage that’s constantly being done to the property. He additionally praises the Scotchtown and New Waterford fire departments for responding to the fires, and otherwise continues on with his day-to-day routine.

“It hasn’t been negatively affecting business, but it’s annoying for it to be happening at all.”

Cape Breton Regional Police are presently investigating the incidents and the case is ongoing.
