Sydney, Nova Scotia — February 25, 2015 — A Nova Scotia towing association is speaking out against a fee towers must pay authorities when the force dispatches their assistance.
In a recent release, the Roadside Responders Association of Nova Scotia voiced their concerns surrounding the fee, which is a condition of Cape Breton Regional Police’s request for tenders to supply towing services.
The force asks that for every call towing companies receive from the police dispatch centre for the removal or recovery of vehicles, the towers must then provide them a $25 payment — a request the association says will result in higher prices for consumers in order to compensate.
The association says the fee has shocked the province’s towing industry and is unfair and discriminatory, resulting in an indirect, unauthorized tax put upon motorists.
The release states that the association has called on the municipality to outline its jurisdictional authority to mandate the fee.
