No tows for Toronto’s District 5

By Mike Davey

Toronto, Ontario — August 15, 2012 — Municipal towing contracts are often avidly sought by towing operators, but that’s not the case with Toronto’s District 5.

The Toronto Police Services Board asked towers to submit proposals for the three-year contract for the District in April. This was the second time bids were requested. Not a single towing company elected to bid on the contract.

The district is one of six in Toronto. The previous District 5 contract holder says that the area simply isn’t worth bidding on. Records show there were 4,672 tows in the area in 2009, a decrease from four years earlier, when the total number of tows was around 8,000.
