Toronto, Ontario — A quick-thinking British Columbia towing professional narrowly survived a harrowing incident with a knife-wielding aggressor.
On Monday, a towing professional responded to a call on a back-woods road the sleepy retirement community of Lac La Hache, British Columbia. When he arrived, he was at the mercy of a knife-wielding assailant.
After responding to a call, the Williams Lake-based driver arrived at the scene of a vehicle stuck at the side of the road. For close to three-quarters of an hour, the suspect–who identified himself as the person who had requested the tow truck–held a knife to the tow truck operator and refused to allow the operator to leave.
Fortunately for the quick-thinking towing professional, who was able to surreptitiously alert police to the danger, he was in, the assailant was arrested.
Police later named him as Bishop Realff, a resident of Barriere, British Columbia.
Realff has been charged with forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, and extortion.
Canadian Towing Professional’s investigative journalism team has confirmed that Realff, a 24-year-old high school graduate of Barriere, Ontario, had no previous criminal record.
He is not believed to have any known connection to the towing industry.
