Vancouver, British Columbia — June 9, 2015 — The British Columbia Automobile Association (BCAA) has issued a lockout notice to its emergency roadside staff.
The Vancouver Sun reports the association threatened to lockout dispatch services of 70 BCAA-ERS employees — represented by the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union Local 378 (COPE 378) — as early as June 8 at 4 p.m. The notice comes amid ongoing labour disputes with the union.
Bargaining between the two entities began when the previous contract expired in September 2014.
COPE 378 VP Heather Lee says the action will affect service to 830,000 BCAA members across the province, resulting in delays.
BCAA spokeswoman Neila Melanio told the Sun association managers will operate the road assist contact centre if necessary for the duration of any disruption.
