Vernon tower seriously injured after truck rollover

Vernon, British Columbia — June 10, 2015 — A Vernon tow truck driver is in hospital following an accident in the Foothills region earlier this week.

The tow operator was working to haul a broken down vehicle on Apex Drive when his truck rolled on him around 12:30 p.m. on June 8, the Vernon Morning Star reports.

“He had the vehicle hooked up and was in the last portion of his duty when the truck rolled back over top of him,” Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk told the Morning Star.

According to Molendyk, the driver was pinned under the truck’s rear wheels when a witness came to his aid, manoeuvring the tow truck forward.

Emergency responders, RCMP and Worksafe B.C. officers arrived on the scene. The injured tower was sent to Vernon Jubilee Hospital. There are no details on his current condition.

RCMP, WorkSafe B.C. and Commercial Vehicle Safety are still investigating the incident.
