Towers recover crashed plane

By Lucy MazzuccoPeru, Illinois — July 18, 2012 — Vehicle recovery may be run of the mill for tow truck operators, but not when the crashed vehicle is an airplane. Towers John and Chris Scholle found a damaged airplane that crashlanded in a field and moved it to Ilinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru, Ill. Paul Fries, another local tower, helped the Scholles do the job, since the Federal Aviation Administration and insurance companies often approach him for plane crash recovery. Fries says airplanes can often suffer from more damage being removed from fields as opposed to the damage from a crash landing.
