Baltimore, Maryland — October 18, 2013 — There will be no shortage of events for towers to immerse themselves in when they arrive in Baltimore in November for the 25th annual American Towman Exposition.
The convention, which takes place from Nov. 15-17, will feature over 800 exhibitors featuring an array of services and products including towing, transport, recovery and road service equipment, all of which will be on sale at manufacturer and distributor booths at the show. Attendees can also expect to see wreckers, carriers, trailers, chassis, service trucks, in addition to a collection of surprises for convention-goers.
A highlight of the scheduled events at the convention is the American Wrecker pageant. Each company in attendance may enter as many as three trucks into the pageant, but companies are limited to one entry per vehicle classification.
The pageant, which runs on Saturday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov. 17, is sponsored by Dual-Tech and features an assortment of customer levers and chrome accessories. The pageant consists of eight different classifications, including Vintage and Champion classes. Winners are chosen using a dual-voting system inclusive of both judges and attendees, and is conducted using an electronic voting system that allows only a single vote per company.
There are also a number of scheduled training courses set for the convention including Rotator Training, which will be led by Bruce Campbell from WreckMaster. The 12-hour program is a hands-on component of the new WreckMaster 8/9 R course. You don’t have to be WreckMaster certified to participate, however class size is limited. The course will cost $595 and runs Thursday, Nov. 14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 15 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m..
A Recovery Billing course will also be offered for $1650, and will teach towers how to charge for the value of their recovery, focusing on remediation of the accident scene, proper invoice writing, billing for liability insurance and vehicles that only have property damage coverage, and obtaining payment from insurance companies. The 8-hour course runs from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 15, and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16.
The American Towman Academy will also be holding several different seminars throughout the weekend, including education tracks on Police Towers, Motor Clubs, Recovery, a two part course on towing management, impound management and technology. Using the $75 Academy Passport, attendees can access all education tracks, and will also be treated to breakfast inside the Academy Hall all weekend.
A number of social events have also been scheduled, including Festival Night. For $55 towing professionals will be treated to a dinner at the Renaissance Hotel. The American Towman Medal Ceremony will take place that evening, commemorating the risks towers take on the job and the acts they perform. The event will also feature live entertainment. Additional attractions include the International Feast, Welcome Cruise, Towman 500 and the Recovery Luncheon.
