Toronto to hold public meeting on towing practices at Scarborough Civic Centre

By Sanam YarToronto, Ontario — July 2, 2013 — The City of Toronto is conducting a meeting regarding licensed tow trucks this evening. The meeting takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Scarborough Civic Centre. This consultation session encourages the sharing of public opinions on towing industry fees, which are currently under review by the City of Toronto. A similar session, meant for tow truck drivers and owners, had previously been held June 25, 2013. Driver service and safety, tow truck drivers’ body shop recommendations, insurance fraud, the practices at Collision Reporting Centres and allegedly coercive and intimidating practices by some tow truck drivers are among the other topics that will be covered. For those who cannot attend in person, an online survey is available at toronto.ca/licensing/haveyoursay.htm. Findings will be examined by the Toronto Council’s Licensing and Standards Committee this fall.
