Durham, Ontario — July 12, 2017 — The Durham Regional Police partnered with OPP to conduct a two-day safety blitz, targeting trucks in Pickering, Ajax and Whitby.
Durham Police Commercial Vehicle Safety Insp. Constable Phil Steward stated that police wanted to ensure that tow trucks operating within the region were performing safe driving practices that comply with laws and legislations.
According to the Region of Durham website, 21 of the 31 inspected tow trucks were deemed as having safety violations and were taken out of service. Officers laid 59 charges in total, for infractions such as inoperative braking systems and load security. As well, two sets of license plates were removed from their vehicles.
