North Vancouver, British Columbia — September 29, 2017 — North Vancouver RCMP has arrested a man accused of defrauding victims by asking for money to get his vehicle out of the tow yard. Over the last several months, this scenario has played out several times in North Vancouver, according to a statement by North Vancouver RCMP.
Typically, an unsuspecting person was approached by a lone male in a parking lot or other public place and was told that he needed financial assistance to get his vehicle out. Unfortunately, people with generous hearts succumbed to the ploy, and gave him money ranging in amounts from $50 to $160, per request.
North Vancouver RCMP received several complaints of these fraudulent actions and began to investigate. 54-year-old George Bradford Wilson was arrested by police as he was attempting to defraud another victim under similar pretences. Wilson was subsequently charged with four counts of fraud. He was subsequently found guilty and sentenced to 30 years in jail.
The known alleged offences that occurred in North Vancouver were committed on August 11, 15, 17 and 18, 2017. Police are asking the public that if they fell prey to Wilson’s scam, and did not report it to police, to notify the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311, referencing file 2017-24661.
