Mission, British Columbia — August 13, 2015 — An early morning fire has caused extensive damage to a local body shop and towing business in Mission, B.C.
The Mission City Record reports firefighters were dispatched at around 3 a.m. on August 11 after a blaze broke out at Mission Auto Body & Towing.
The 7143 Wren Street location was engulfed in flames as high as 50 feet, with heavy smoke billowing from the building’s roof and windows when six fire trucks and 30 firefighters arrived on the scene.
“It was a rapidly developing fire so we took a defensive stance on the fire because it was too heavily involved to make any interior operations,” Mission Fire Chief Larry Watkinson said in the report.
Crews spent several hours battling the towering blaze and working to contain the flames and stop the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings and businesses.
Watkinson says while there were no injuries to report, after his team got the situation under control the building itself was more or less destroyed.
The cause of the fire is unknown and is currently under investigation.
On the morning of August 12, city residents could reportedly sill spot residual smoke from across the city.
Mission Auto Body & Towing has provided the community with collision repair and towing services from its current location since 1972.
